Pan was the god of shepherds and the mountain wilds in ancient Greece. He was worshipped primarily in the highlands of the Peloponnese where rustics tended herds of goats. The traditional center of his cult was Mount Mainalos in Arkadia. In classical sculpture, Pan was depicted as a goat-legged and horned man with bestial facial features.
